Business sustainability status of agro-processing MSMEs in Morogoro municipality, Tanzania

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the business sustainability status of agro-processing
MSMEs in Morogoro Municipality. The study employed a cross-sectional design, with data
collected in eight wards of Morogoro municipality. Questionnaires were administered to 183
MSME owners. A Likert scale was used in the questionnaires with a 5-point itemised scale.
Factor analysis with varimax rotation was employed to analyses the data and assess the business
sustainability of agro-processing MSMEs.Three factors social, economic, and environmental
loaded significantly. This implies that, for agro-processing MSMEs to remain sustainable, the
three primary factors mentioned above must be considered together, not in isolation, even if there
are other areas for study. Implications of the study and areas for further research were provided.
